How to fix an overbite

An overbite, also known as a buck teeth or class II malocclusion, is an orthodontic condition where the upper front teeth protrude too far forward compared to the lower ones. It can be caused by genetics and bad oral habits such as thumb sucking and tongue thrusting at an early age. People with slight overbites may not require treatment but for severe cases, dental braces are necessary in order to reposition the misaligned teeth so they overlap properly and give a proper bite when the mouth closes.

Overbite is defined as the overlaping of the top teeth over the bottom teeth. It's caused by a number of things, including hereditary factors, incorrect jaw position from birth, disruption to tooth eruption and development due to poor oral hygiene habits (e.g., thumb sucking), or habits such as tongue pushing and using certain pacifiers for too long to name a few. Overdevelopment in some areas of bone can cause protrusion in both jaws which may also contribute to an overbite issue if there wasn’t enough room for proper alignment of front teeth resulting in overlap. Occasionally, overcrowding can be present from little space between teeth leading those same front teeth up overlapping each another rather than fitting together properly

What causes of overbite

Overbite is a common type of malocclusion (misalignment of the teeth) in which the top front teeth protrude over the bottom ones. It can be caused by several different factors, including:

  • Genetic Orthodontic Issues: Overbites can be inherited or result from orthodontic treatments gone wrong.

  •  Improper Habits: Prolonged thumb sucking as a child and poor oral posture while speaking or eating may also contribute to an overbite. These habits can cause overlaps between the lower jaw and upper row of teeth, altering mouth alignment and leading to further misalignments like an abnormal bite pattern or curved entropion formation.

  • Teeth Crowding Issues: When there isn't enough space for all your teeth due to genetics, premature tooth loss or enlarged tonsils/adenoids that prevent proper swallowing—these issues could increase crowding in both rows of teeth making it difficult for them to fit together properly without any kind of misalignment developing. This overcrowding puts pressure on other parts of the face such as maxillary bones resulting in improper manifestations like severe under bites combined with huge over jet conditions and more visible reverse female facial profiles when viewed from side angles creating undesired effects aesthetically .

  •  Jaw Growth Problems: If one's mandible (lower jaw bone) does not grow at exactly same rate as their maxilla (upper jaw bone), an imbalanced growth process will occur causing jaw discrepancies leading to unevenness near molar area where back edges are positioned disproportionally compared frontal sections embracing larger dominant part significantly ahead than behind set’s variation displaying raised anterior unproportionately higher surface level configured appropriately
How to reduce and fix  overbite

In order to reduce overbite:

1. Visit your dentist regularly for regular checkups and professional cleaning, so they can properly monitor changes in your occlusion (the contact between your upper and lower teeth). Ask them about options that may help you achieve the best positioning of your teeth relative to each other.

2. Consider using braces or retainers if recommended by your dentist or orthodontist; these devices slowly move the position of the teeth while changing their alignment gradually to create better balance throughout bite relationship improvements with time.
