About Standing Voice

Standing Voice (SV) is a registered Tanzanian NGO with an established track record delivering holistic interventions to defend the rights of persons with albinism in Africa. Since 2006 there have been 206 documented killings of people with albinism across 29 African countries and a total of 572 attacks, fuelled by misguided witchcraft beliefs. People with albinism also suffer from very high susceptibility to skin cancer and visual impairment. Frequently social exclusion marginalises these individuals from essential health and education services resulting in a social crisis.

Our core programmes in Health, Education, Advocacy, and Community Development reach thousands of people with albinism across Tanzania, and have been accessed by people with albinism from 29 African countries. Our team has over 10 years’ experience in this issue, building scalable best practices geared toward local capacity development and government replication. Our work has gained us Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Our Tanzania Head Office is located in Isamilo, Mwanza. From this base our dedicated team delivers our programmes and develops our strategic regional relationships. SV UK provides executive management, strategy, PR, and fundraising support.
