Background
The
Inclusive Business in Sunflower Value Chain project is a 2.5 year programme
funded by AMDT. The aim is to increase the sustainable income and employment of
productive poor men, women and youth through increased access to services,
markets and inputs enabled by structural and behavioural change triggered among
the actors in the sunflower market system
Job Description
The
Gender and Youth Development Officer will be in charge of steering the gender
and youth approach that cross cuts the whole IB Sunflower project. S/he will be
responsible for developing and implementing the gender and youth strategies
that ensure inclusion of women and youth in project and intervention design.
S/he will develop the capacity of market actors to conduct Gender Based value
chain analysis; support the engagement of private sector players in the gender
track and build the capacity of Local Authorities to develop Gender Champions
and conduct household dialogues around gender and intra-household decision
making. Will work with the private sector to understand and develop the
business cases for engaging with women and youth, and liaise with the market
actors for the aim of identifying opportunities of engaging these groups in the
businesses related to hybrid sunflower markets development.
Please
note. This is a hands-on post. The applicant will be developing and
Implementing the work themselves – not supervising others to do it
Provides
technical leadership to design and implement comprehensive approaches to
include women and youth in private sector intervention strategies, and develop
pathways to hybrid sunflower market system.
Consults
with companies, business enterprises, to understand their interests and ensure
that project interventions create opportunities that fit women and youth needs.
Builds
inclusive business cases to present to private sector companies in targeted
sectors, highlighting the benefits of engaging with women and youth in their
businesses.
Participate
in market analyses to identify the unique constraints and opportunities for
women and youth in the identified market systems.
Facilitate
youth capacity building in basic market research and business skills, including
how to develop and customize business plans.
Support
the development of local authorities in implementing gender work at the
community level
Assist
in the identification of male champions from the project areas and provide
means to model community behaviour change through their influence.
Collect
and share learnings and best practices from the project and share with market
actors, Regional Authorities, Local Government Authorities, AMDT and within
SNV.
Work
closely with the M&E Technical Lead to generate monitoring and analysis
tools for gender and youth interventions and to collect and analyze data
Preparing
and filling reports; implementation activities reports and periodic project
narrative reports.
Qualifications
BA in
Gender Studies or a related field (Masters degree preferred)
At least
5 years of work experience in gender-responsive development work, preferably in
agriculture and value chain development
Experience
working with youth and young entrepreneurs
Demonstrated
knowledge and experience (minimum of 5 years) of workforce development and
gender issues, including:
Gender:
knowledgeable about differences between gender in accessibility and
availability of business services, trainings, access to finance, and related
services.
Mentoring
and Networking for Business: This may include one-on-one, group sessions and
networking opportunities for unemployed youths, entrepreneurs, or other related
enterprises.
General
Business Advice: This may include providing advice and tailored knowledge to
women-led businesses, including recommendations about government programmes and
regulatory compliance.
Entrepreneurship:
Knowledgeable about Non-financial Business Development Services (BDS), small
business finance, entrepreneurship, marketing, scaling up small ventures, and
other related topics.
Practical
knowledge on Market Analysis and Gender Value Chain / Markets Systems
Development and women’s economic empowerment approaches.
Excellent
facilitation and communication skills in multi-stakeholder environment
Experience
of working with local partners, including government agencies, development
partners and civil society organisations.
Experienced
Trainer and facilitator
Demonstrated
experience on documentation and reporting
Additional Information
This is
a full-time national role with a contract of 2.5 years renewable. Salary is
competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a
competitive secondary benefit package.
